About us:

Who are we?

The Consular Corps of Southern Sweden is a collaboration among the consuls in southern Sweden. It is one of three regional organisations (The Consular Corps of Southern Sweden, The Consular Corps of Stockholm, and The Consular Corps of Western Sweden) within the Corps Consulaire en Suéde.

The Consular Corps of Southern Sweden covers five counties (Skåne, Blekinge, Halland, Kalmar and Kronoberg). The corps is based in Malmö and comprises approximately 50 active consuls as members, with the majority operating in Malmö. Additionally, the corps has around 40 consuls who are considered passive members, meaning; consuls no longer in active service.

Corps Consulaire en Suède was established in 1931 as a non-profit association for the honorary consuls of foreign countries in Sweden. It is a national organization with the mission to advocate for the interests, development, and contacts of honorary consuls in Sweden.

The Geneva Conventions

The foundation for all consular missions is based on the Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols. International humanitarian law, also known as The law of war, comprises international agreements regulating armed conflicts, both international and internal/civil wars. Their purpose is to provide minimum protection, standards for humane treatment, and fundamental guarantees for the respect of individuals who become victims of armed conflicts.

What we do:

What’s a Consulate?

A local consulate is an extended arm of a country’s embassy in the nearby area. Each country decides on the tasks of its own consulate, but in general, a consulate will be able to help with the following tasks.

The Consulate acts as a source of information and knowledge about its country, offering services for those in need.  If you have specific questions about the country, the Consulate can usually be of service.

Further, the Consulate shall safeguard the interest of the country’s citizens in Sweden. For example, at most Consulates you are able to get help with legalization of documents. Some further help with visas and passports.

A Consulate shall also promote the relationship between its country and Sweden. Including trade relations, cultural exchange and tourism. The Consulate often helps companies with potential import- and export issues, assists in cultural exchange and promotes tourism to- and from the country.

The consuls in southern Sweden collaborate within the Consular Corps of Southern Sweden, one of the three regional organizations within the Corps Consulaire en Suéde. A consul’s status and role are regulated by an international convention called the Vienna Convention.
